The bees knees
Let’s bee honest, bees do it all: Pollination, soil and crop health indicators, and BEE PRODUCTS! What all do bees produce you ask, well there are a few main products: honey, pollen, wax, propolis. At Sanborn farms we care about the bees first and foremost, so we only harvest what is excess. Apis Mellifera, or the European Honey Bee, is about a dozen species of bees that are social and produce excess. Honey is often used as an emergency food source for bees, but in humans it is used as a food and medicinally in hospitals to pack wounds. Naturally antimicrobial and anti-fungal, honey has been know to last thousands of years. Wax is used in a lot of products like soap, cosmetics (lotions and lip balms), candles, and more. Propolis is a natural resin collected from plants and trees that the bees use for waterproofing their hives. For humans, propolis has a lot of health benefits from natural bandaids to cold remedies. Pollen is used for allergy relief and a tangy snack! At Sanborn Farms we always make sure the bees are overly supplied, and harvest whatever is left over. We like to run our farm as a bee sanctuary rather than a labor camp!
